What is Life Story

A person’s Life Story put into words on the printed page brings out their true character and tells who a person really was. The Life Story changes the focus of a funeral service from death to the life that was lived. The story engages people and encourages them to revisit the memories they may not otherwise acknowledge or remember. They can link these cherished memories then to their own lives, remembering forever how the person affected them. Making these connections is vital to the healing process, which is why people leave a Life Story Visitation or Life Story Service feeling supported by their memories.

Before we create a Life Story we ask you to provide some basic information like the person’s birthplace, family, and schooling, to establish a context for his or her life. After this framework is in place, we ask you to answer some questions and share your memories. When this information is gathered, we craft a story of the person to paint a full and colorful picture of the life he or she lived.

What we ask for from you

Much of the information mentioned above a funeral home needs to complete the required legal documents associated with a funeral. The additional detail you supply allows the writers to produce a well crafted story.

In addition we ask for twenty pictures spanning the individual’s life from birth to the current time.

How its used

Five of these pictures create a life panel, ideally showing the transition from birth, to youth, then middle age and finally adult. This panel is placed in or by the casket.

If cremation is selected and an urn is present the life panel is placed directly on the urn if selected.

All of the pictures are used to create a DVD video for use during the visitation and or service, as well as being incorporated into the memory folder which contains the personalized story.

A professional web page is created using all of the above, which also includes a quest book, a page for family and friends to post memories, poems and even pictures.

All of the above can be accomplished in time for the funeral service. If desired additional pictures and any corrections or additions to the story can then be given to us and incorporated into a final DVD and a high quality permanent book and framed pictures in an assortment of sizes.

The following questionnaire can be answered in the comfort of your home and be returned to us to aid with a current service or added to your prearrangement if so desired. All information would be reviewed by your funeral director and discussed with you before any publication.

Please review the following questions, and enter your answers in an email. Be complete, yet to the point with your answers. You may wish to have a few members of the family together to remember stories and details.
